She is definitely has a story to tell. She had been in another shelter program for nearly seven months when we met her. She came in for a visit and was unmotivated to even try to work to change her situation.  We gave her the option of staying with us and allowing us to guide, motivate and inspire her, or closing the case. We informed her that in order for us to stay involved she needed to get involved with her life.

Faced with one of the most severe affordable-housing shortages in the nation, state and local governments are trying to address the issue with at least a half dozen projects.

Metro Orlando, which includes Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties, ranked third nationally for its lack of housing for extremely low-income residents, a new study shows. Few places in the country have enough rentals for income-challenged residents but Orlando’s shortage is twice as severe as the nation’s, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

Mardi Gras Party at St. Richard’s to benefit Family Promise!

Saturday Feb 25th from 6 – 9 p.m. at St. Richard’s, 5151 Lake Howell Road in Winter Park.

The party will feature 60’s and 70″s Rock n Roll music by the Clayton Band; a Costume Contest; a Cajun Dinner; Hurricanes, Wine and Beer for Purchase; and Baskets for Raffle (Tickets $1 each). Tickets are only $25 each, or $200 for a table of 8 (for individuals who purchase a table, we encourage them to decorate it- there will be a prize for the best table decoration!). Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Rhonda’s Fight To Get Back Home

After losing her home and spending several weeks “couch surfing” with friends and family members, Rhonda and her three teenage children found themselves at Family Promise seeking assistance and guidance. In her mind, she had hit her lowest point.

Rhonda – a bright, hard-working, and solid-as-a-rock mother of three quickly adapted while residing within the FPGO congregations. She became a source of comfort, reassurance, and support not only to her own children during her time in the program, but also to the other families who lived alongside her each day. With her encouraging words and easy-going personality, Rhonda truly worked her way into the hearts of just about everyone she encountered.

Bipolar…angry….difficult…mother of four children…homeless…desperate. These are just a few of the adjectives that described Kimberly when Family Promise received her as a client. Other agencies in town looked at her and thought “hopeless”. No one was sure how to help her. She was helpless…or so they said.
